What it takes

Ambulance paramedics must have:

an Ambulance qualification from a recognised university
a Victorian Drivers Licence*
a good level of health and fitness
be of good character
the ability to think clearly and act quickly
the capacity to control emotions in stressful situations
highly developed communication skills
the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
a caring and empathetic nature
effective analysis and problem solving skills
a high level of interpersonal awareness
adaptability
the ability to follow instructions and guidelines
resilience
clear decision making and judgement skills

* From July 2008 - Victorian applicants with a probationary licence must have held a Green Probationary license for a minimum of 2 years.
